In a previous article - Your Salon Website, Search Engine Optimisation (SEO) Basics - we walked through the process of setting up basic salon websites, for under £100 per year. But for some people, perhaps those who are just starting up their beauty salon or hair salon, this may be too expensive at the beginning.
One way to get round this is to use some of the free directory or Internet Yellow Pages websites (like Yell, Brownbook, Google Local, etc.) to create a basic listing for your salon. You could fairly quickly setup a profile on Google Local, get some satisfied customers to post reviews, and then put a link to that profile from other free directory entries.
Marketing guru Seth Godin suggests another way for small local businesses to establish a profile on the internet, without the time and expense of setting up a website, in his article Memo to the Very Small. Bear in mind that of the services Seth recommends, he is a user of one and a founder of the other (Squidoo) so his suggestions are not entirely unbiased.
It’s not the solution we would recommend, but it’s good to get different opinions!
